In Free Fire, there are normal characters, and then there are Awakened characters. Awakening a character transforms their appearance and, more importantly, fuses two skills into one slot. It is the ultimate upgrade for free-to-play players.
But unlocking them takes time. You have to complete specific “Awakening Missions” (like running 100km or killing enemies with low HP). Which one is worth your time? Let’s analyze the Elite versions of our favorite characters.
1. Kelly “The Swift” (Elite Kelly)
The Skill: Deadly Velocity.
After sprinting for 4 seconds, your first shot deals 106% damage. The effect lasts for 5 seconds.
Why she is Essential:
Kelly is the most popular character for a reason. Her awakening combines her base “Dash” (6% speed) with a damage buff. This fits every playstyle.
The Strategy: Run -> Slide/Jump -> Shoot. That first bullet hits harder. This is incredible for Shotgun users (M1887) and Snipers. An AWM body shot with Kelly’s buff can sometimes one-shot enemies with Level 1 vests.
How to Unlock Fast:
Her mission usually involves running. Play Classic Battle Royale, grab a car, and drive around the whole map. Yes, driving counts as distance traveled in some older patches, but running is safer. Play Purgatory and just run laps around the Golf Course.

2. Hayato “Firebrand” (Elite Hayato)
The Skill: Art of Blades.
Reduces frontal damage by 3.5% for every 10% max HP loss.
The Tank-Rusher Hybrid:
Normal Hayato increases Armor Penetration when your HP is low (Offense). Elite Hayato reduces damage taken when your HP is low (Defense). When you awaken him, you get BOTH.
This makes Hayato the king of 1v1 face-to-face duels. If you and an enemy both have MP40s and spray at each other, you will win because you take less damage and deal more penetration damage as your health drops. He is mandatory for Clash Squad.
3. Andrew “The Fierce” (Elite Andrew)
The Skill: Wolf Pack.
Armor damage reduction boosted by 11%. Additional 15% damage reduction from every teammate carrying this skill.
The Squad Meta:
Elite Andrew is unique because his skill stacks. If all 4 players in your squad use Andrew, your vests become nearly indestructible. You can tank grenades and sniper shots that would normally kill you.
Solo Viability: In Solo, he is less effective than Hayato because you lose the “Wolf Pack” team bonus. Only use him if you play Squad Ranked.
4. Moco “Enigma” (Elite Moco)
The Skill: Hacker’s Eye.
Tag enemies for 5 seconds. Awakening extends the tag duration if the enemy moves.
The Sniper’s Best Friend:
If you hit an enemy and they run behind a Gloo Wall or into a house, Elite Moco keeps the arrow above their head for up to 6-7 seconds (if they keep moving). This allows you to pre-fire when they peek out. It also lets your teammates with M82B snipers shoot them through the wall.
Conclusion: Who to Awaken First?
- Kelly: Universal. Good for everyone. Unlock her first.
- Hayato: If you are a Rusher/Fragger.
- Moco: If you use Snipers or play support.
- Andrew: If you have a permanent squad that coordinates skills.
Don’t be lazy. Grind those Awakening Shards. Having a two-in-one skill slot gives you a mathematical advantage over players using the basic versions.
