In the early days of Free Fire, grenades were useless. You threw them, the enemy saw the red indicator, and they ran away. But then Garena added the “Cooking” mechanic (the timer). Now, a grenade is the deadliest weapon in the game.
A perfectly cooked grenade gives the enemy zero reaction time. It explodes the moment it touches the ground. If you master this, you can wipe entire squads hiding in houses without ever firing a bullet. This guide will teach you the geometry and timing of being a “Grenadier.”
1. What is “Cooking”?
When you hold the grenade button, a timer appears. You have roughly 4-5 seconds before it explodes in your hand.
The Perfect Timing: You want to throw the grenade when the timer shows roughly 2.5 to 2 seconds remaining (depending on distance).
- Too Early: Enemy sees the red circle and runs.
- Too Late: You knock yourself down (Don’t be that guy).

2. The Alvaro Character Advantage
If you want to main grenades, you MUST use Alvaro. His passive skill increases explosive damage and range.
With the “Awakened Alvaro” skill, your grenade splits into multiple smaller grenades after being thrown. This covers a huge area. If an enemy is hiding behind a Gloo Wall, regular grenades might miss. Alvaro’s split grenades will hit them from the side.
3. The Beaston Pet (Distance)
The Beaston pet (the Baboon) increases throwing distance by 30%. This is massive.
Without Beaston, you have to get dangerously close to a house to throw a nade. With Beaston, you can throw it from behind a tree far away. This keeps you safe while you pressure the enemy.
4. Geometry: Bouncing Grenades
Free Fire physics allows grenades to bounce off walls. Use this to clear campers.
Scenario: The Double Door House (Peak)
Enemies always camp at the top of the stairs. If you run up, you die.
The Fix: Stand outside. Aim the grenade at the window frame or the ceiling of the staircase. Cook it. Throw it so it bounces off the wall and lands exactly on the stair landing. Boom. Squad wiped.

5. The “Gloo Wall” Trick
Sometimes you need to throw a grenade, but the enemy is shooting you. Here is the trick:
- Place a Gloo Wall in front of you.
- Start cooking the grenade behind the wall.
- Jump and throw it over the wall.
- Crouch back down instantly.
The enemy won’t see the throwing animation until it’s too late.
Conclusion
Grenades are free kills. Stop throwing them randomly. Go to the Training Ground (there is a specific Grenade Range there) and practice cooking until you can make it explode exactly on the target. Once you master the timer, you become a nightmare in Clash Squad.
